MSM benefits asthma, arthritis patients
About four years ago, my mother asked me to investigate something that might relieve her asthma. She had suffered from it for over 30 years and felt that she was certain to die from an asthma attack. MSM benefits asthma, arthritis patients
About four years ago, my mother asked me to investigate something that might relieve her asthma. She had suffered from it for over 30 years and felt that she was certain to die from an asthma attack.
I started researching and came across MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), an organic sulfur (macromineral) that occurs naturally in plants, animals and the human body. It is the fourth richest mineral in the body and is used in every cell.
Sulfur is important for healthy hair, skin and nails. It stimulates bile secretion and helps maintain proper brain function. Combined with vitamin C, it disinfects the blood and resists bacteria, parasites and fungi. MSM helps the muscles, skin, and lungs maintain flexibility while controlling the body's inflammation.
One of the most powerful ways that adequate sulfur levels can affect the body is that as new cells form, sulfur is incorporated into the cell wall, making it more permeable to nutrients. Without sulfur, nutrients have difficulty penetrating the cell wall.
Sulfur is created by evaporation of ocean water and is then found in plants through precipitation. If rainwater is not used in agriculture but is replaced with city water or purified water, sulfur will not be found in the products.
Some plant sources of sulfur include asparagus, garlic, onions and green leafy vegetables, particularly watercress and chard. It is best to eat these raw and uncooked as sulfur is easily destroyed by heat.
Supplementing with MSM can benefit arthritis patients by improving joint flexibility, reducing stiffness, swelling and pain, increasing blood flow and cell vitality.
Sulfur is useful for asthmatics by preventing inflammation and regulating the fluid that covers the airway surface of the lungs. This allows the lungs to be more flexible and increases lung capacity.
Methylsulfonylmethane is considered extremely safe and toxicity is virtually unknown. In fact, no toxic effects have been shown in people given up to 1 gram per kilogram of body weight (70 grams or more) per day for 30 days.
My mom started taking 1-2 grams daily (1 gram is 1,000 mg), worked up to 8 grams for 3-4 months, and then weaned herself off again. She went from using her “buffer” every day to never using her. She no longer takes steroids or other medications and has been free of asthma for 4 years.
Side note: Sulfur should be divided into at least two servings per day as its half-life in the body is only 12 hours.
Some other conditions that may benefit from adding a sulfur supplement include:
- Diabetes
- Allergien
- Wundheilung
- Schmerzlinderung
- Augenprobleme
- Krämpfe (und PMS)
- Stress
- Schnarchen
- Hauterkrankungen einschließlich Psoriasis
- Parasitärer Befall
- Giftige Metallvergiftung
