The “I Hear You” project is a collaboration between the Norwegian science institute SINTEF, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and two local partner organizations in Tanzania. It has been possible to develop and test a new method for detecting hearing loss in children using gaming technology. The technology is easy to use and can be made universally available as you only need a standard tablet and headphones.
The aim of the project was to develop hearing testing services for local communities so that hearing loss in children can be detected as early as possible.
The project will now continue under the name “I Hear You 2”. The aim here is to examine the impact of various measures to improve the education of children with hearing loss. “I Hear You 2” was recently awarded third place in the “Impact Expected” category at the EARTO Innovation Awards for 2022. EARTO is the European Association of Research and Technology Organizations.
