Undetected ovarian cancer: The moving story of Mia Robins (21)
How a young woman survives a serious illness
We often hear about patients who struggle for a long time with inexplicable symptoms and who are not taken seriously by doctors. One such case is the story of Mia Robins, a 21-year-old biomedical student from Liverpool, England.
Mia began suffering from severe pain in December 2021 after an appendectomy. Her appetite disappeared, her hair fell out, and she was constantly tired. Despite multiple doctor and emergency room visits, her symptoms were not taken seriously. She was told she had celiac disease, anemia or a bladder infection.
It was only when Mia discovered a large lump on her stomach that she became suspicious. When she went to the emergency room again in June 2022, a tumor the size of a melon was discovered on her ovaries. The diagnosis: first stage ovarian cancer.
Mia had to undergo emergency surgery immediately and then undergo three months of chemotherapy. But she was lucky: the cancer did not attack any other organs, and she has been considered healthy since August last year.
Mia Robins' story shows how important it is not to ignore symptoms and to listen to your body. Thanks to her persistence and timely treatment, she was able to beat cancer and is now happy about every healthy day she is able to experience.
